| Yay! My yarn arrived! (Well, sort of, the gray is on back order...not all of it is pictured there) Kind of weird knitting needles she sent me, but supposedly the lady at the store told her they would be easier to work with. And for those who told me in my previous post that the book she was getting me would be useless? You were right. I had to go to YouTube to find out how to cast on to the needles. But I have 2 questions... - How many stitches wide should the scarf be? - And that row I am casting on...is that my first actual row? Or is the first knitted row count as the first row? | |||

Mr Beebarf is turning into a Doctor Who obsessive. I've also got several friends who are also somewhat more than fans, and they told me about this community and design. I had some blue cotton in my stash - snaffled very cheaply at a charity shop - and I was off. In less than an evening, I had a gift for my sweetie! I made the border garter stitch rather than single rib, as garter stitch is speedier but other than that, I made no changes. | |||

| So, my husband's aunt asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and as I've been wanting to have a Doctor Who scarf of my own, I pointed her to the season 16 scarf page over at doctorwhoscarf.com and I now have a box of yarn, needles, and a how-to-knit book headed my way. I've seen a few people using online meters to post their progress. Where do I find those? And....anyone have any advice for the newbie? | |||

| Hello everyone, I've been following this wonderful community for a while now, and a little while ago decided I would try to knit my own dalek. I've only really had a couple of scarves under my belt so it's kind of slow going. I've gotten to the shoulders and while attempting to do knit 1 purl 1 while using both of my colors. It looked really strange to me after a few rows and I realized that instead of making the vertical stripes the pictures show...I instead somehow began to double knit. I was hoping someone could shed some light onto why this happened...and maybe help me fix it? I would be very very grateful!! | |||
| 21st Dec, 2009 @ 19:40 Make Your Very Own Scarecrow Mask! | |||
|---|---|---|---|
|
I know I posted recently. I've yet to begin the mario shirt project I asked about, though I intend to begin soon. But I wanted to share with everyone a project I did over the summer. And really, what Batman fan can live without their very own.... Scarecrow mask~? ( Would you like to see my mask....? ) Make an acrylic wash [ but if you don't have any acrylic paint, use tea or coffee ] to stain the burlap. Give the patches a rough dirty look. Maybe make some patches darker than others. You want to do this in patches. Small and large! Change things up! if you make a mistake, you can always sew another patch on top of it. Do this until you've got the fabric completely covered. You could also use pieces of leather if you want. I haven't tried leather patches on mine, but I'd recommend sticking to brown colors. Burlap DOES have a tendency to shed, and fall apart. Eventually the burlap will start to fall off your mask. Therefore, you'll have to prepare yourself to make another mask in the future. Please allow the burlap enough time to dry after you stain it. It will just fall apart when you try to sew it onto the mask. Be careful about wearing this mask. It can get a bit heated, though mine is fairly comfortable, and you don't want to pass out from a heat stroke! This hasn't happened to me, but I'm sure it's not impossible. And now, the finished product. Photobucket refuses to comply to my wishes, so I leave you a link:http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb88/l http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb88/l http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb88/l
And in other news: The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me.

| 21st Dec, 2009 @ 18:41 Extermiknit! (now with lights and sounds!) | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Current Mood: accomplished
Last Christmas I made my boyfriend The Scarf which he adored. For his birthday I made him a matching hat (with detachable earflaps). So I knew I had to step it up a notch this year. I finally decided to make a Dalek that spoke and lit up. After some serious Googling, I found cheap programmable sound chips on Amazon and a light organ kit from Apogee Kits that lights up to sounds around it. I added a switch to the kit so the Dalek isn't constantly lighting up and put two of the LEDs on wires so they could be put in the Dalek's "eyes". I used the fabulous Extermiknit pattern which was honestly the easiest part of the project. It took several attempts at the light effect, including a wasted kit because my cat ran off with the circuit board and several snapped wires that were not the cat's fault, but finally he's finished. ( More details after the cut ) | |||
